This month at Cooley is all about getting to know each other! An important part of a successful school counseling program is building meaningful and trusting relationships and that is my focus for this month. I want to get to know all about YOU, the students, parents, families, faculty, and staff. At the same time, I believe that it is important for you to learn about me and my role as the school counselor.

Here are a few of the ways I am going to facilitate this for the month of August:

1. I will be available at 6th, 7th, and 8th grade check-in August 7-8. I will be tabling at these events and will have information very similar to what you see on this website. Additionally, I will have a few handouts available that I believe are essential for a successful start to the school year!

Parents: stop by my set-up on these days and fill out a brief survey to be entered to win a Target gift card! Your participation in this survey will help me to shape my school counseling program throughout the year to better serve your children and their needs.

2. There is a bulletin board outside of my office called "The Counseling Corner". This will be updated regularly, much like this blog, and will reflect the different topics I am targeting. Currently, the bulletin highlights the different things that school counselors can assist with! It is a great resource to parents, students, and staff alike. Come check it out whenever you're in the office, and if the door is open, pop in to say hi, too! :)

3. The first two days of school I will be making sure to be present during all of lunch period for students. Students who can answer a few simple questions about the school counselor will win a prize! What a great way to meet students, educate them about my role, and have fun! Be sure to come find me at lunch!

4. Lastly, I am making it my priority to be as visible as possible this month. I will be there before school to greet students, and after school to see them off. During the school days, I will be making it a priority to meet as many students, parents, and staff members as possible. If you see me, please say hi! :)
