Yay for October! Fall is here, and so is Bullying Prevention Month...however, instead of focusing on preventing bullying this month at Cooley, we will be focusing on promoting unity, kindness, inclusion, and respect.
The Counseling Corner bulletin border got an upgrade last week. The focus of this month's board is respect and how to show it.
R Recognize that everyone is different.
E Empathy is to listen and connect.
S Self-monitor. Think before you speak.
P Patience and positivity.
E Earn trust through your actions.
C Cheer on others and their success.
T Treat everyone as you want to be treated.

Additionally, we will be celebrating this month in a couple of ways.
First, on Thursday, October 18, students can wear PURPLE to show support to LGBTQ+ students around the globe who disproportionately face harassment because of how they identify. This spirit day is being organized by the GSA club on campus, with the help of myself, and our awesome bike tech teacher, Jackie Musick. More information about this campaign can be found at https://www.glaad.org/spiritday . The GSA did an AMAZING job on the awareness posters!

Secondly, Cooley will be celebrating "Dude, Be Nice" week the week of October 22-October 26. Dude, Be Nice week is an initiative to spread kindness. Each day, there will be a challenge of the day and I will be handing out raffle tickets to students that I see performing each daily challenge.
The schedule is as follows:
Monday, October 22 : Say hello to someone!
Tuesday, October 23: Give someone a compliment!
Wednesday, October 24: Give someone a high five or a cobra strike!
Thursday, October 25: Pick up trash!
Friday, October 26: Hold the door for someone!
*Bonus: receive a Dude, Be Nice raffle ticket any day of the week for each nice note you write to a teacher or staff member!
When students receive a Dude, Be Nice ticket, they can turn it into me throughout the week, and during 6th period on Friday, I will pick a winner! The winner will receive a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts to share with a friend! Thank you to Kathryn Buchan, the counselor at Buljan, for giving me this wonderful idea!!
