What an AMAZING start to the year!
WEB
Our WEB program has been a huge success and we couldn't be more proud of our WEB Leaders. They have really taken on a huge role on campus and have risen to the occasion. Mrs. Liebman, who teaches the WEB elective, and E period, has done an amazing job creating opportunities for the students to work together to support our 6th graders, each other, and our school as whole.
For example, we now celebrate "WEBsday" every Wednesday. WEB Leaders wear their WEB shirts and our leaders participate in the activity for the day. Some days we have what we are calling the "WEB Welcome". This is where WEB Leaders greet students as they are arriving to school with high fives, Cobra Strikes, fist bumps, smiles, and great big "good morning!"s. They have also facilitated lunch time activities that give kids the opportunity to win prizes, and they participated in a campus cleaning during lunch, where they helped our fabulous custodian, Miss Ruby, pick up trash and make sure our campus was clean. WEB Leaders have also been in charge of our new student tours, and have even helped support 6th graders in the classroom. It's hard to put in to words just how amazing our WEB Leaders are, but we will continue to try.

Signs Of Suicide
This month is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and, as part of this month, we rolled out our Signs of Suicide (SOS) curriculum to students on Wednesday, September 4th. Roseville City School District adopted this curriculum in response to legislation, AB 2246, which requires that student's in grades 7-12 receive suicide prevention training. The Signs of Suicide program encourages students to seek help if they are concerned about themselves, or a friend. The SOS Program is the only youth suicide prevention program that has demonstrated an improvement in students’ knowledge and adaptive attitudes about suicide risk and depression, as well as a reduction in actual suicide attempts. The students are trained in the ACT method which stands for Acknowledge, Care, and Tell; acknowledge that there is a problem and you or your friend needs help, Care or show that person that you care, and Tell a trusted adult. This curriculum has been hugely successful with our students and they all take a proactive role in keeping each other safe. Please contact Miss Grace if you have any questions regarding the program.

The Cobra Well
The Cobra Well is a new resource on campus this year and has been an incredible addition to Cooley! The Cobra Well can be used as a safe space for students who need to reset or take a break. The Cobra Well also houses the newest Cooley staff members, Joel Herrera, who is a licensed marriage and family therapist, and Ambrosia Cramer, who is our community liaison. Some of Mr. Herrera's role on campus will be to assist in the facilitation of groups and lunch time activities, such as clubs. He is also available for crisis response, and is available to provide consultation to teachers and parents. Miss Ambrosia is our go-to for resources. She has been instrumental in securing tangible resources, such as hygiene products, backpacks, and water bottles, for our Cooley Cobras in need, and has also done a lot of work connecting students to appropriate outside resources. Joel, Ambrosia, and myself will also work together on the facilitation and implementation of workshops for parents and students on a variety of topics including internet safety, nutrition, and stress, and we will also run small groups for students including girls groups, social skills groups, and anxiety/stress groups.

Video Game Club
Video Game Club has received SO many donations from so many generous Cooley families and we are incredibly grateful. Thank you to everyone who has donated to our cause. I am hoping that Video Game Club will be up and running by the end of the month, and will provide students with the opportunity to connect with other students who have similar interests, and give students a fun place to spend their lunch period. So far, we have secured 5 consoles, tons of games, and lots of awesome accessories. None of this would have been possible without the help of our Cooley community, and again, we thank you! Stay tuned!

We are off to an incredible start, and are excited about all the supports and resources we have to offer to students this year!
